Lorde on 'Mockingjay - Part 1' Soundtrack in Billboard & Track 5 Revealed as Ariana Grande/Major Lazer Collab

Ahead of the Mockingjay - Part 1 soundtrack album release on November 17, Billboard Magazine's latest issue has a big new feature on Lorde, her career, and her involvement with the film and the soundtrack.

On getting in touch with Kanye West to involve him in the upcoming album:
Of course, she did have to cold-call Kanye and ask him to do it, which was no simple thing for her. "I'm the worst person ever at talking to people I don't know on the phone -- I can't even order pizza," she says. "I would put off calling him. I'd say, it's 12:57, I'll do it at 1." She wound up hanging out with West in the Malibu, Calif., studio where they assembled the track, although she won't say more because "he's private." Grace Jones, Chemical Brothers, Miguel and Charli XCX also answered Lorde's calls and contributed new songs to the soundtrack. It was important to her that the collection not feel like her own personal mixtape. "It would've been selfish for me to make ambient house music," she says, laughing. "With a film like that, everyone likes it, not just people like me."

And on how she came to be involved in curating the album:
Her role in the new one came about when Lionsgate president Eric Feig asked her to record a track for the end credits, and Perry instead suggested that she oversee the album. "At first they were like, 'You can just do an EP,' " the singer recalls, wrinkling her nose. But eventually the studio agreed to a full album with a budget, according to a source, of about $200,000. (The source wouldn't disclose the details, but Lorde presumably gets a cut of the sales.) "I'd really wanted to A&R a record," she says. "And I basically got to do that."

Also, thanks to Amazon France, we finally have solved the mystery of the to-be-announced Track 5. According to the tracklist there, the track will be All My Love by Major Lazer. Major Lazer is a project overseen by producer Diplo, who is involved in several tracks on the album, and All My Love has at first been reported on in mid-October with a tweet from Diplo confirming his project's and Ariana Grande's involvement in the song. Since then, Ariana has announced on her twitcam live chat earlier this week that she is involved with the Mockingjay soundtrack with the song written by Lorde and produced by Diplo - that track does look to be All My Love. UPDATE: Diplo also tweeted that the track will feature MØ, Boaz van de Beatz and Jr Blender.

This news does now rule out The Lumineers', James Newton Howard's and Jennifer Lawrence's rendition of The Hanging Tree making an appearance on the album, but it will be on the original score album which will be released soon after the companion album.

The Mockingjay - Part 1 soundtrack album is released on November 17, with pre-orders available now.
