UPDATE: 'Mockingjay - Part 2' Final Trailer Debut Oct 2 @ U.S. Best Buy Stores, Virtual Reality Experience Debuts October 8 @ NYCC


UPDATE 2: Samsung and Lionsgate have announced their partnership in a new press release today, which provides more information on the virtual reality experience, the final trailer debut, and the Los Angeles premiere on November 16:
During October 9-11, The Hunger Games Virtual Reality Experience powered by Samsung premieres in its entirety at an event in New York City. Fans will be taken on a 6-minute, 360-degree immersive journey through some of the defining moments of The Hunger Games film franchise using the Samsung Gear VR headset. The VR experience takes viewers through Katniss’ journey throughout the The Hunger Games series. 
“Our goal is to create new and exciting experiences for consumers,” said Joanne Lovato, vice president, Brand and Entertainment Marketing at Samsung Electronics America. “Through our continued partnership with Lionsgate, we look forward to sharing exclusive content with fans and giving them never-been-seen-before footage from the entire Hunger Games series, including the upcoming Mockingjay – Part 2.”
“We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with a consumer technology leader and innovator like Samsung to create unique ways to engage The Hunger Games fans that extend the brand beyond the screen,” said Paula Kupfer, Senior Vice President, Global Partnerships and Promotions, Lionsgate. “The Tab S2 sneak peek and Gear VR experiences in this promotion offer unique and engaging opportunities for fans to become immersed in the world of The Hunger Games while also building excitement for the November 20th global launch.”
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 will have its gala US premiere in Los Angeles. On the red carpet, Samsung will have an exclusive fan bleacher section to reward certain Galaxy owners and The Hunger Games fans with experiencing the premiere.
Lionsgate have also shared with us the following detailed information that should hopefully answer most questions:
  • A 67 second teaser clip of the full 6-minute Virtual Reality experience, featuring a "VR-ized" moment from Mockingjay - Part 2 will be shown at this weekend's Best Buy events. The full 6-minute experience will debut October 8 at New York Comic Con (exact event details to be revealed closer to the time), and will be available for existing Samsung Gear VR owners through the Milk VR service on the same day. The experience will be released widely on iOS and Android (viewable via Google Cardboard & similar headets), like Insurgent: Shatter Reality experience at a later date, ahead of the film's release.
  • The "Mockingjay App" will be an overhauled update to the existing Our Leader The Mockingjay app (due to be renamed), that should feature more awesome augmented-reality abilities. Parts of the new update (but not the full experience) will be available to try out at the Best Buy preview, and the update will launch for Samsung Galaxy users closer to New York Comic Con, with the update going widely after that weekend.
As for the LA premiere - we think it's safe to assume that a similar arrangement to last year is happening this year, so no fan camp. And the trailer still looks to be released on Monday...we'll let you know if we get an official date/time for the worldwide launch.

UPDATE: More information is starting to trickle through the official terms and conditions. Those who come to the participating Best Buy stores for the trailer & VR experience will receive a free poster! (unknown which poster though) Also from Friday, Galaxy Tab S2 owners in the U.S. will be able to download the three previous films via the Samsung+ app.

Well, this is all coming much sooner than we expected.

Samsung have announced on their website that, much like the Mockingjay - Part 1 teaser trailer last year, the final trailer for Mockingjay - Part 2 will make an exclusive debut at Best Buy stores across the United States next week, on October 2nd.  The exclusive preview period will go on until October 4, after which, like the MJP1 teaser trailer, we're expecting the online debut at midnight ET on Monday, October 5.

Check if your local Best Buy store is participating on the Samsung website.

We're expecting this trailer to run one minute, like previous final trailers, and it's sure to be pretty action packed. This debut is definitely much earlier than previous years, we assume this serves to kick off the film's TV spot campaign. We, we have to say, are rather upset that after the negative fan reaction to the equivalent debut plans for the MJP1 teaser, that they've gone through with this with the final theatrically-released trailer for the franchise.

Also, alongside the final trailer, Best Buy will have the exclusive tryouts of The Hunger Games Virtual Reality Experience for Samsung Gear VR, and an unspecified Mockingjay app...maybe like the Hunger Games Movie Pack app, it will have other interesting content such as screenplays - maybe the screenplay for Part 1? We're expecting the VR experience, much like the previous Samsung/Lionsgate collaboration Insurgent: Shatter Reality, to launch widely across all iOS/Android devices (via Google Cardboard), and Gear VR and Oculus Rift at a later date.
